Suzuki to start testing the SX4-FCV in Japan

Suzuki will start testing the hydrogen fuel-cell powered SX4-FCV soon...

In keeping up with Honda and Toyota’s ‘go green’ initiatives, Suzuki has also gotten on to the bandwagon. The Japanese carmaker will now start testing a hydrogen fuel-cell powered variant of the SX4, the SX4-FCV.

The SX4-FCV is fitted with a fuel-cell (which makes the equivalent of 107 horsepower) supplied by General Motors, and the car has a 70MPa storage tank for hydrogen. The FCV’s electric motor produces an additional 91bhp and the vehicle’s top speed is around 150km/h. Range is 250km.

Suzuki will start testing the SX4-FCV soon, and the road-going version could be ready by 2010-11. Of course, don’t expect to be able to walk into your friendly neighbourhood Maruti Suzuki dealership and order one of these anytime soon…
