M&M looking at acquiring Malaguti, may tie-up with Loncin

Malaguti makes stylish, high-tech and sporty scooters, which may help M&M get a slice of the high-end two-wheeler segment in India

Mahindra & Mahindra seems to be getting more serious about getting into the two-wheeler business. After having acquired the Pune-based Kinetic recently, M&M is now said to be looking at the possibility of acquiring Italian two-wheeler manufacturer, Malaguti.

M&M is said to be looking at expanding its product portfolio beyond the scooters and motorcycles which Kinetic already makes. And for this, M&M is said to be considering alliances, tie-ups and even acquisitions in Europe, Taiwan and China.

While Kinetic already has two-wheelers which would allow M&M to cater to the entry-level scooters/bikes segment, the company wants to be present in higher end segments as well, for which it may need the kind of powerful, stylish and high-tech scooters which Malaguti makes.

For entry-level motorcycles, M&M is also said to be considering a strategic alliance with Loncin, one of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in China.
