New and improved: Tata Motors’ Indica Vista launched

Tata Motors will take on new upcoming hatchbacks from Maruti, Hyundai and others, with its new Indica Vista. The car is said to be much improved over the existing Indica...

Tata Motors has launched the next evolution in the Indica series. Named the Indica Vista, the new hatchback features various improvements and is expected to continue Tata Motors’ success story with small cars.

Launched more than 10 years ago, the Indica has done very well in the country, with Tata Motors having sold more than 900,000 units of this car. In the last fiscal, 144,690 units of the Indica were sold – the highest ever in a single year for the car.

The new Indica Vista will be available in up to seven variants, starting from the 1.2-litre base model, which is priced at Rs 3.49 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, all the way up to Rs 4.88 lakh for the 1.4-litre top-end version. The Vista is marginally bigger than the old Indica, and offers more interior space. Its styling has also been given a facelift, and fit-and-finish is said to be a notch higher than the outgoing model.

Tata Motors is said to have invested Rs 1,700 crore for the development of the new Indica Vista. The car will be produced at the Fiat-Tata plant at Ranjangaon, near Pune. The plant has an annual production capacity of 200,000 cars.

Over the next few months, once the Indica Vista is established in the domestic market, Tata Motors will start pushing the car aggressively in foreign markets, and will also look at developing LPG and CNG variants of the car.

Tata Motors will also continue to sell the base model versions of the existing Indica, probably to cater to the low-cost requirements of the taxi segment in the domestic market.
