Honda's MAEPS tech could be available on the Japanese market Accord next year...
Honda is ready with the next step in driver safety technology, and it’s called Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering (MAEPS). This technology is meant to help the driver steer the car in the right direction, in the event of a slide on slippery roads.
MAEPS works together with a car’s electronic stability program (ESP), anti-lock brakes (ABS) and traction control systems. It detects when a car loses stability during cornering and/or braking in slippery road conditions, and automatically initiates steering inputs, prompting the driver to steer the car correctly.
For now, MAEPS will only be available on the Honda Legend in Japan, followed by the Honda Accord and the Honda Odyssey. The system is expected to be offered on Honda cars outside Japan only after 2010.
