RECC: G-Wiz L-ion to hit UK roads by May this year
While it’s not yet available in India, the Reva G-Wiz L-ion – developed by the Bangalore-based Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) – is now on sale in the UK. An evolution of the regular G-Wiz (sold in India as the Reva/Reva-i), the G-Wiz L-ion is fitted with state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries, which gives it a range of up to 120km on a single charge and a top speed of 80km/h. A new fast-charge station is also being offered, which charges the L-ion’s batteries in just 90 minutes.
According to a press release issued by the company, the new G-Wiz L-ion also offers improved acceleration and maintenance-free battery operation with all-weather performance. The car is priced at £15,795 (Rs 11.80 lakh!!) and orders can be placed now, with deliveries starting by May this year.
We think the G-Wiz L-ion is a brilliant car – it is just the right size for tackling crowded cities and the 120km range makes it quite practical for everyday urban use. However, it’s outlandishly expensive and the Rs 11.80 lakh price tag simply wouldn't work in India – which, of course, is why RECC has not launched the car in the domestic market. We just hope lithium-ion battery technology gets cheaper over the next 2-3 years, so we can also get this car in India.
