Volkswagen announces the opening of its Pune plant


The Volkswagen Golf is coming to India next year...

Volkswagen has announced the opening of its new plant in Pune, which will start producing the Skoda Fabia in May this year. The plant, where the VW Polo hatchback will be made from 2010 onwards, will eventually produce 110,000 vehicles per year.

VW has committed an investment of 580 million euros (Rs 3,915 crore) for the Indian market and its plant in Pune will be one of its most modern, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the world. VW believes the Indian automobiles market will grow in volumes from the present 1.2 million units per annum to 2.0 million units per annum over the next five years, and the company hopes to capture a significant chunk of the growing market for premium segment cars.
