Audi India sales up 55.7% in March 2009

Disappointing news for those who may have been waiting for an affordable Audi hatchback - the Audi A1 is not coming to India...

Audi, which sold 162 cars in India in March 2009, saw a 55.7% increase in its sales over March 2008, which stood at 104 units. The German carmaker has already sold 384 units in India in 2009 and is quite bullish on its prospects this year.

In India, Audi currently sells the A4, A6 and A8 sedans, the TT coupe, R8 supercar and Q7 SUV. The company is also looking at launching its smaller SUV – the Q5 – in the country by June this year. However, contrary to some earlier reports in the media, Audi has no plans of bringing its small car, the A1, to the Indian market, though it might consider bringing in the A3 hatchback sometime next year.
