HMIL cumulative sales up 17.6% in June 2009

The i10 continues to be a bestseller for Hyundai in India

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) reported an increase of 17.6% in its cumulative sales for June 2009, at 47,267 units, as against 40,182 units in June 2008. HMIL’s domestic sales during the month stood at 23,016 units, as against 21,881 units in June 2008, while exports went up from 18,301 units in June 2008 to 24,251 units in June 2009.

‘The first half of 2009 sales saw us maintain a strong position in the overseas market which, of course, saw resurgence due to incentives in many European countries. In the domestic market too, we maintained our leadership position although the growth curve remained flat. We hope that in the coming budget, the Government will continue its initiatives which it had taken to support the domestic market and would also take some positive steps to support exports,’ said Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice President - Marketing and Sales, HMIL.

During June this year, Hyundai India sold 42,524 units in the A2 segment (Santro, i10, Getz and i20), 4,706 units in the A3 Segment (Accent & Verna), 34 units in the A5 Segment (Sonata Transform) 34 units and 3 units in the SUV Segment (Tucson). The company is also all set to launch a diesel variant of the i20 in India, which is likely to be powered by a 1.4- or 1.5-litre common-rail turbo-diesel. Also, a 1.4-litre petrol engined version the i20, with an optional automatic gearbox, is said to be in the pipeline. While the diesel variant will be launched in India on the 7th of this month, the 1.4-litre petrol could follow after a few weeks.
