Peugeot BB1 electric car concept unveiled at Frankfurt

The Peugeot BB1 electric car can actually seat four people, despite its tiny dimensions!

Peugeot has just unveiled the BB1, a tiny little electric car with motorcycle-style control and seating space for four adults! ‘Peugeot has pushed back the conventions and boundaries of current automobile manufacturing to create a totally new solution to the current and future needs of urban mobility,’ says a press release from Peugeot.

Shown for the first time at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the BB1 concept car, which is just 2.5m long, offers flexible seating which can either take four adults or two adults and their luggage. There are no foot pedals in the BB1, which is driven via motorcycle-style controls. This approach has been adopted in order to use cabin space more efficiently.

Access to this small Peugeot is through reverse opening doors, while the load area is accessed through an innovative tail board/tailgate design. The BB1 features a range of cutting-edge technologies – full LED headlamps, rear view cameras, Internet connectivity, mobile communications, GPS navigation system and so on.

The Peugeot BB1’s electric drive system, developed in collaboration with Michelin, incorporates twin electric motors mounted in the rear wheels. They produce a maximum power output of 15kW (20bhp), allowing the EV to accelerate from zero to 30km/h in 2.8 seconds. The performance, tailored to suit congested urban areas, is adequate for the city.

Fed via two lithium-ion battery packs, the BB1’s electric motors provide a range of range of 120km. With its carbonfibre bodywork, tubular chassis and double-wishbone front and rear suspension, the BB1 – which weighs less than 600kg – could potentially provide the best of both worlds. For those who seek the weather protection of a car and the ease of manoeuvrability and parking of a scooter/motorcycle, the Peugeot BB1 could possibly be the ideal solution.
