Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-awaited ‘new’ SX4 sedan, which comes with a 1.6-litre petrol engine that’s BS IV emission norms compliant, and an optional four-speed automatic transmission. Other changes include new front grille, 16-inch alloy wheels, updated, dual-tone interiors, steering wheel-mounted controls for the car’s audio system, USB compatibility, a new, more effective climate control system and optional leather upholstery.
The new SX4’s engine, which has variable valve timing (VVT) technology, produces 104 horsepower and 145Nm of torque. According to ARAI figures, mileage is 15.6km/l. Available safety features include anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and dual airbags at the front.
The new SX4 VXi (manual) is priced at Rs 6.68 lakh while the SX4 ZXi (automatic, with leather upholstery) costs Rs 8.36 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The prices do seem to be a bit on the higher side and whether the new Maruti SX4 will be able to take on the Honda City in the Indian market remains to be seen.
