Car sales up 34%, two-wheeler sales up 14% in India, in October 2009
According to sales figures released by SIAM, car sales in India were up by a hefty 34% in October 2009, at 132,615 units, as compared to 99,052 units in October 2008.
Two-wheelers also did well, with sales going up by 14% during October this year, at 611,828 units, as compared to 535,642 units in October 2008. Commercial vehicle sales in the country were up 52% in October this year, at 42,562 units, as compared to 28,019 units in October 2008.
Maruti, Hyundai and Tata Motors were the top performers in domestic car sales in October this year. Maruti sold 63,365 units (up 21.5%), Hyundai sold 28,301 units (up 41.5%) and Tata sold 17,557 units (up 24.5%) during the month.
Among two-wheeler manufacturers, Hero Honda sold a mind-boggling 332,476 units (an increase of about 1%) during October this year, but it was Bajaj Auto which scored the highest in terms of percentage increase in sales – 179,111 units as compared to 102,242 units in the year-ago period, an increase of 75%.
