General Motors unveils all-new Buick Regal sedan
GM is ready with its new luxury/sport sedan, the Buick Regal, which will go on sale in the US by mid-2010. ‘With its turbocharged horsepower, a driver-selectable suspension system and a firm, European-tuned chassis, the new Regal delivers a driving experience that rivals the best import sport sedans in the segment,’ says Buick.
Built to take on cars like the Acura TSX and Volvo S60, the new Buick Regal is available with a choice of turbocharged 2.0-litre (220bhp) and normally aspirated 2.4-litre (182bhp) petrol engines, both of which are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. There are three driving modes – normal, touring and sport – which optimise the car’s dynamics the way you want.
The new Regal rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and comes with high-end audio and navigation systems as standard equipment. Suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and four-link independent set-up at the back, and all-wheel disc brakes with ABS, BAS, traction control and stability control are all standard. Twin front airbags are standard, while side curtain airbags and rear seat airbags are optional.
The 2011 Buick Regal has been developed in Germany, by the same engineering team that did the new Opel Insignia (2009 European Car of the Year), which is currently the best-selling midsize sedan in Europe.
‘The Regal is all about great proportions. It’s an aggressive stance that people aren’t used to seeing in recent Buicks,’ says John Cafaro, design director - passenger cars, Buick. ‘There is great design harmony between the exterior and interior. The feeling of flow and motion carries through in an engaging manner that makes you want to take the Regal out to your favourite twisting road to see what it can do,’ he adds.
General Motors says it will continue to refine and develop the Buick brand for its North American and Chinese markets. For India, GM will continue to focus on the Chevrolet brand and has no plans of bringing the Buick nameplate here.
