Peugeot iOn to go on sale in Europe by end-2010
Peugeot’s new electric car, the iOn, will go on sale in Europe by end-2010. Based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV platform, the iOn has a range of about 130km and its lithium-ion batteries can be fully recharged in six hours. Also, a quick recharge (80% of full capacity) takes only 30 minutes.
The iOn can seat four people, packs 64 horsepower and 180Nm of torque, and has a top speed of close to 130km/h. Peugeot, which used to make the 106 Electric between 1995 and 2003, claims it has sold the maximum number of zero emissions electric vehicles in the world.
