Skoda’s worldwide sales inch closer to 600,000 units mark in 2009
Skoda, which sold 570,217 vehicles between January-October this year, could well cross the 600,000 units mark by the end of this year. And while Skoda continues to do well in Europe, the one market that’s really powering the brand ahead is China, where more than 100,000 units have already been sold during this year.
‘Having become one of the key markets in Škoda Auto's global strategy, China is playing a major role in the brand's future development. The Octavia has been a great success since its launch in June 2007. The Fabia, launched last December, is also very successful. The launch of the Superb in August this year was exceedingly important for further expansion in this market,’ says Reinhard Fleger, a member of Škoda Auto’s board of directors.
Skoda, which sold 1,753 cars in India during October this year, is all set to launch various new cars here during 2010, including the very interesting Yeti crossover. However, with parent company Volkswagen also all set to increase its presence in India in a very big way from 2010 onwards, it remains to be seen whether Skoda will continue its upwards trajectory in the Indian market.
