Suzuki APV could come to India in 2010
Maruti Suzuki, which stopped production of its multi-purpose van – Versa – some time ago, is looking at launching a new vehicle in that segment by March 2010. With vehicles like the Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and Chevrolet Tavera already doing brisk business, the van/MPV segment isn’t one that Maruti can afford to ignore for too long.
The vehicle which we think will replace the Versa, in India, is likely to be the Suzuki APV, which is already available in countries like Pakistan, Indonesia and even Australia. For India, Maruti is likely to offer 1.2-litre petrol and/or 1.3-litre common-rail diesel engine options for this seven-seater vehicle, which will be named Maruti Eeco.
With Fiat and Honda also looking at launching their MPVs in India, things are likely to heat up very quickly in this segment, and the Suzuki APV / Maruti Eeco certainly looks like it could take on the competition without too much trouble. Stay tuned for more news on this one…
