Bajaj ULC car project shelved for now
After Bajaj’s recent announcement that the company will stop making scooters and focus only on bikes, it has dropped another bombshell – the company is likely to shelve its ultra low cost (ULC) car project, which it was planning with Renault-Nissan.
According to Rahul Bajaj, Chairman – Bajaj Auto, an ultra low cost car may not be a very good idea in the current market scenario. According to Bajaj, the market is chock-full of cars in all shapes and sizes, and there is no point in Bajaj joining the fray at this point in time.
In the past few months, Bajaj and Renault have failed to agree upon the specifics of their small car project, with the two companies having different thoughts on what such a car’s USP might be. At this time, it’s not clear whether the Bajaj small car has been shelved for good or whether the project might be revived at some point in the future. Stay tuned for more news on this front…
