Maruti Suzuki: Concept R3 MPV to be unveiled at the 2010 Auto Expo

Maruti will unveil its new six-seater MPV at the upcoming Auto Expo...

It seems we were wrong about the possibility of Maruti Suzuki bringing in the Suzuki APV as a replacement for the now-defunct Versa. Instead, Maruti will relaunch the Versa with a new name ('Eeco'), a new 1.2-litre petrol engine and minor styling mods. However, when it comes to MPVs, the company does have something that's a bit more exciting up its sleeve - Maruti has developed an all-new six-seater MPV – dubbed Concept R3 for now – which will be unveiled at the Auto Expo in Delhi next month.

According to a press release from Maruti, the six-seater Concept R3 MPV is an all-new compact vehicle that’s completely different from any existing car from the Maruti Suzuki family and has not been shown at any previous international motor show anywhere in the world. ‘Concept R3 has been conceptualized, designed and built from scratch by a team of talented Indian designers in India over a short time span of nine months. It represents the next level of skill enhancement of Maruti Suzuki engineers,’ says the press release.

Maruti Suzuki’s theme for the 2010 Auto Expo is ‘Joys of Life’ which has been chosen to celebrate Maruti’s 26 years of operations in India. Along with the Concept R3, Maruti will showcase 16 other vehicles at the 2010 Auto Expo, including the Kizashi sedan, which is also likely to be launched in India in 2010.
